Other Weekly Youth Activities:
Throughout the year we will be offering a variety of activities for High School teens. Some of these activities will include Movie Night every first Friday of the month.
What is Oratory?
Our weekly youth gatherings on Wednesdays are named after St. John Bosco’s youth group, a term which to his mind suggested prayer and organized recreation. Which is exactly what we do with our Oratory!
During the first few minutes of Oratory, as teens gather, you can see some playing by the pool table, others at the ping-pong table and still others hanging out on the couches catching up after a long week.
Our session begins with prayer and then going around the room and sharing our highs, lows and God moments from the past week.
Depending on the week, we will do a large group activity or game. Bibles will then be pulled off the bookshelves and we will dive into the readings for the coming Sunday or scripture relevant to the season.
Discussion Questions will be asked and our lively discussion begins! Each session is closed by going around and sharing our personal intentions and offering up a decade of the Rosary.
Every session is a blast! and we are always looking forward to newcomers.
Who was St. John Bosco?
He was a Catholic Priest in Turin who helped and ministered to hundreds of impoverished youth. Providing them care, shelter, comradery, and spiritual lessons. He would start a weekly gathering that almost lasted the entire day of Sunday. He would go on to start an orphanage for those boys who had no one to go home to at night and eventually a trade school. He became very well known and priests from all over came to join in his mission.
