The Sugar Canes began operation February, 2000 with William Huebner as President and Gussie Sciba as Vice President. Meetings on the third Wednesday of each month began with members attending 11:30 am mass in the chapel. This group, as a Society, started with 17 members. At the present time the Sugar Canes of St. Theresa have 102 members. Our members are very active in other Parish Fellowship and Ministry activities through the year.
We are in Solidarity with our Priests, Deacons and Seminarians. We work closely with Parish office staff and Pastoral Council. We visit the Homebound. We are Catholic Daughters (Court 2211), Knights of Columbus (St. Basil Council 4204) and Fourth Degree (Bishop Morkovsky Assembly 2243), St. Theresa School, Eucharistic Ministers, Sacristans, Lectors, Ushers, Club Unidad, Gathering Place, St. Vincent de Paul, and Money Counters. We work at our Annual Parish Bazaar, Lenten Fish dinners and Bereavement Committee for receptions following Funeral services. We take day trips by bus to the casino at Coushatta / Louisiana in March and September. Also, our November and December meeting meals are catered.
The Sugar Canes of St. Theresa meet monthly on the third Wednesday at 11:30 am in our parish Community Center. We welcome and invite all guests and newcomers, age 50 +, to attend our monthly meetings. After a brown bag lunch and a brief business meeting, it’s Bingo Time!! Coffee, ice tea, water and desserts are provided. Our annual dues are $10 per person.
