First Communion

Children who have received the Sacrament of Baptism in the Roman Catholic Church may register for the Faith Formation (formerly referred to as CCE) program at age 3 or older. Even if they are not in the process of preparing to receive a Sacrament in the coming school year, they may still register. The Faith Formation program is intended to be an ongoing process of Catechesis (i.e. learning church doctrine and tradition) year after year. 

Children who have celebrated their 7th birthday prior to the start of the next school year and will be entering the 2nd grade or higher should be registered for the First Sacraments class in addition to the Faith Formation class. The First Sacraments class provides specific preparation and formation for children receiving First Confession and First Communion for the first time.

Parents are to walk this journey with their child therefore the classes are for the children and the parent as well. Children would meet in a classroom setting while the parents are given the same material in a conference setting. Classes take place on Sundays with the opportunity for make up classes. 

Elementary and Middle School Faith Formation Registration

Faith Formation classes are required for children who have been baptized in the Catholic Church and are offered on a weekly basis. To enroll in the First Sacraments class, a child must be currently enrolled in and attending their second year of Faith Formation, be enrolled in a Catholic school, or participate in a pre-approved Catholic homeschool program. Please contact our Faith Formation office via email at faithformation@sugarlandcatholic.com for information and assistance regarding approved Catholic homeschool programs. 

To qualify for the second year Faith Formation class, students must have attended the First Year class with 80% good attendance or higher. Once it has been determined that the child is eligible to enroll in the First Sacraments class, we will assist with the enrollment process. We have opened registration online as of June 21, 2024.
