Ministry Spotlight: St. Vincent de Paul

Ministry Spotlight: St. Vincent de Paul

The Saint Theresa Conference of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul (SVdP) is one of 60 parish-based groups in the Archdiocese that, together, make up the Galveston-Houston Archdiocesan Council of the SVdP Society. It is, at its heart, a grassroots, volunteer- based, direct-aid organization that helps people in need get back on their feet.

We provide short-term financial, material, and emotional support and work person-to-person through advocacy, education and referral efforts to break cycles of poverty, empower people and promote self-sufficiency.

The SVdP differentiates itself by its dedication to person-to-person service. Volunteers start a dialogue with people and really get to know those we help.

The Society helps all people regardless of their religious affiliation or ethnicity. We offer confidential support services in a dignified way, in light of the Gospel man-date and Christian hospitality.

We as volunteers actually have the most to gain. Being able to live the Gospel through kind and compassionate actions that make a direct positive impact on not just one person, but potentially generations of people, is the only thanks we need. We grow personally through our contributions to a growing community right here in the Greater Sugar Land area.

The continued generosity of Saint Theresa Parish allows us to provide limited financial and nonperishable food assistance to those in need in our Parish and the Sugar Land community. We appreciate the continued assistance and support you help provide. We are also thankful for the Sugar Canes, Date Night participants, H.E.B. Grocery Store, and many individual parishioners that contribute to our needs. Our pantry is seeing an increase in the demand for toilet paper, feminine hygiene products, laundry detergent, and diapers for newborns thru 2 year olds. We are always in need of the following: flour, sugar, cooking oil, peanut butter, jelly, soups, cereals, cake mixes, and all non-perishable items.

We are also seeking a volunteer bilingual greeter/interviewer to assist us during office hours. Thank you!

How do I as a parishioner become involved in SVdP?

Contact our St. Vincent de Paul Coordinator, Ken Elliott, at 281-242-9149 during hours of operation: Monday and Friday, from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm. Feel free to drop by the Pantry (on the corner of Wood and 7th) to say hello and learn more about this wonderful Work of Mercy.
