Congratulations! The birth of a child is a great blessing and we are looking forward to welcoming them as a member of the Church.
Infant Baptism is for children from birth up until seven (7) years of age. All children age seven and older who have not been baptized will receive their sacraments through the Rite of Christian Initiation, adapted for children.
Baptism Requirements for St. Theresa Catholic Church
- Parents need to be registered parishioners OR live within the boundaries of St. Theresa's. If you do not live within the boundaries of St Theresa and have only recently begun attending Mass here, we will need a letter from your previous parish.
- Prior to the Baptism, both parents and godparents are required to attend a baptism class if they have never attended or, it has been more than three years since their last attendance. Parents and godparents need to call the office to pre-register for the classes. If the class is not taken at St. Theresa’s, please provide proof of attendance from the parish where the class was taken.
- Parents need to complete the Baptism Registration form.
- Parents must submit a copy of the baby’s official birth certificate before a Baptism certificate can be issued.
- If Godparents are from another Church, they can take the classes at the Church where they belong.
Baptisms will not be scheduled until the registration form has been filled out. Please note that Baptism is not automatically scheduled after you have attended the class and submitted the required paperwork. To schedule the Baptism you must either come to the church office, call the church office 281-494-1156 Ext 228, or email the church office isabel@sugarlandcatholic.com when you have completed all the requirements.
Who can be a Godparent?
At least one of the Godparents must be a practicing Catholic and in full communion with the Church (Baptized, First Communion, Confirmed, and, if married, married in the Catholic Church). If Godparents are not a member of our parish, please bring a letter from your parish that you are in full communion with the church.
